I'm heading up Wheeling way in late December for a week with my wife's family. Looking to plug into a local ride while I'm in town if I can. I normally ride with a cycling club here in East Tennessee (Smokey Mountain Wheelmen), and plan on riding through the winter. Of course, it gets a lot colder up in Wheeling. I'm running 700/23 tires though, and not sure if I'll need cyclecross tires though in Wheeling (It rarely ever snows here in Knoxville). I guess it depends on the weather when I'm in town. Anyway, if anyone knows of a ride I can plug into, shoot me an email to brimill68@gmail.com - Thank!

Does anyone know of any weekly rides in the Wheeling Area? I currently ride several nights during the week (12-20 miles)and a couple of longer rides (30-40 miles) on the weekend. I am thinking about getting more competitive and training a little harder, but not really sure where I stand now, because I am always riding alone. If anyone wants to ride email me.

Scatterday Has A Vision ... - Wheeling Intelligencer

Robert Scatterday has a vision that begins in Wheeling and ends in Mount Vernon, Va. Included in this vision is a bicycle, a rider and a strip of pavement that allows a person to pedal from Wheeling to George Washington's homestead without getting off a dedicated cycling trail. But progress in Ohio County is putting part of Scatterday's vision into question, as the re-opening of the Tunnel Ridge coal mine on Short Creek Road could lead to the closing of a section of Wheeling's Heritage Trail. Tunnel Ridge owns the coal loadout area on W.Va. 2 just north of the Pike Island Locks and Dam, and 1,470 feet of the trail system crosses the coal company's property. Tunnel Ridge currently is in the process of renovating the property for its loadout area. more...
